It is important to adapt your lesson plan to accomodate for the English language learners that are in your classroom. I used the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol, a framework for planning and delivering instruction in content areas to multilingual learners and well as other students, to aid me in creating an adapted lesson plan for MLLs. I started with a lesson plan I had previously written and adapted it. I added in language objectives and supports for beginning/emerging/developing English learners. This activity is apart of Domain 1: Planning and Prep because it is important to plan ahead to make adaptations for your MLLs. More specifically, this fits under 1e designing coherent instruction. We need to be able to design instruction that is understandable, reflecting on our knowledge of our content, the students in our class, the intended outcomes, and the available resources. We must also be able to understand our students to best teach them. We may need to reconstruct lessons, such as adding language objectives and supports.

Adapted Handout
Not only is it important to adapt your lesson plans, it is also important to adapt your assignments and handouts. For this handout I used SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) to aid me in my adaptations for this assignment. I started by grouping the content together and took out unnecessary dialog. I also changed some of the supporting words to aid in understanding. On the second page of the handout I added pictures of each cloud configuration so that the student can pair the words and their definitions with an image of what it actually looks like. For the last page in the handout I changed some of the supporting words and decided to challenge them with the last two questions by leaving them in an almost identical configuration. Changing and adapting your handouts is also apart of Domain 1 : Planning and Prep. You want to be able to make these changes ahead of time so that you can be prepared to help all of your students. More specifically, this fits under 1b demonstrating knowledge of students. Teachers need to be able to fill in the gaps. And must be able to accommodate for students and their different activities, cultures, backgrounds, and special needs. In order to do this, teachers must know their students.
Cultural Group Lesson
Fellow future teachers, Elsie Greenwood, Julia Sikora, and I created a lesson plan, handout, an activity (to aid understanding), and a powerpoint to educate our classmates on teaching Asian students. This project helped us, as future teachers, to understand the differences between our students and how we can best prepare and accommodate them. This fits under Domain 4 : Professional Responsibilities because we created a professional development session on a cultural group for our fellow future teachers. More specifically, this fits under 4e growing and developing professionally. Increasing your knowledge and skills will help you to become a better teacher and a better co-worker. You want to make sure that you are refining your understanding to engage students, increase learning, and better your classroom environment. As teachers gain experience and knowledge, they should find ways to filter that knowledge back into their profession and to their colleagues. In this assignment we were able to aid our peers understanding as well as our own.
