For my Google forms assignment, I created a vocabulary quiz for my virtual co-op teacher to use in her 2nd grade classroom. Google forms is a program that you can use to make a form or quiz for any purpose. You can manipulate your form to be of any design you would like, changing the format, color, and question type to each form. Google forms is a super easy way to create good, fast ways of assessment and other uses. I started by contacting my virtual co-op teacher, she suggested doing a vocab assignment and sent me the words. I then created a new google forms quiz using the information she gave me. She gave me full liberty to create anything I wanted. I created six questions, one for each vocab word, using a myriad of different question types. I added in some fun pictures that went with the theme of her vocab list, spiders. Google forms can be used in so many ways in the classroom. Such as, assessment, getting to know students, preferences, and fun quizzes. I can definitely see myself using google forms in my classroom, it is so fun and easy to use! I think I would use it for both assessment and other fun things. For example, getting to know my students on the first day of school. This would be harder to use with younger students, especially pre-k – 1st. Instead of written assessments you could use pictures and do it as a group instead of individually. This technology fits into component 1, planning and preparation, of the Danielson framework for teaching, especially 1b and 1f. Component 1b, demonstrating knowledge of students, is when teachers get to know their students and what accommodations they may or may not need. You can get to know your students through Google forms, asking questions like “what is your favorite color?” “Do you have allergies?” “What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?” As a teacher, you can use their interests to engage them in learning. Component 1f, designing student assessment, is using assessment of learning and assessment for learning to get insight of how well your students are understanding the material. You can use Google forms as a type of assessment, creating quizzes about science definitions, dates of historical events, or writing prompts. This also fits under the ISTE standard 2.5, designer. Specifically, 2.5.a, which says that teachers should be able to use technology to create personalized learning experiences that promote independent learning and accommodate learner differences. Using Google forms, you can create independent learning. If each student has access to their own computer or tablet, they are able to work at their own pace filling out the form. You can also accommodate learner differences through a read-aloud software that helps students who have a vision impairment or difficulty with reading. Overall, Google forms is a really good way to demonstrate the Danielson framework for teaching and the ISTE standards for educators. Google forms is a great use of technology in the classroom that in engaging and easy to use! |
