Kahoot is an online program where you can take quizzes in the form of a game. Typically, there is a time limit to the questions. You are given points depending on how fast you answer the questions, and whether you were correct or not. You can play with individual students or in teams. Besides the classic version of the game, there are new modes where you can play different games such as color kingdoms and treasure trove. The library is full of so many quizzes, ranging from fun facts to educational review. You can choose to use someone else’s Kahoot, or you can make your own. There are a lot of different formats when designing your Kahoot, but there are only the multiple choice and true/false questions are free. You also have options to change themes and add in pictures. It is very easy to create and use Kahoot!
Using this technology ties into the Danielson Framework for Teaching in multiple ways. A few of the components it falls under are: 1d, 1f, and 2b. Component 1d, demonstrating knowledge of resources, is showing that you can use different resources and ways to teach your students. Kahoot is a great resource that every teacher and student has access to. Component 1f, designing student assessment, is using assessment of learning and assessment for learning to get insight of how well your students are understanding the material. You can use Kahoot as formative or summative assessment, but it is better for formative assessment. Component 2b, establishing a culture for learning, is getting students engaged and excited about learning. Kahoot is an easy was to get students excited to play educational games and keeping them engaged during the school day. It can be a fun break for them even though they are still learning! This tool is easy to implement into your classroom! You can spend as much time on the activities as you would like, most of them don’t take very long. You can use Kahoot as a form of assessment to see if your students are understanding what they are learning. It is a great way to review for a quiz or upcoming test. I can see myself using this in the classroom, students respond to Kahoot in such a positive way. I want to make learning in my classroom fun, and this is such an easy way to do that! Kahoot also ties into the ISTE standards for students, especially 1.1 and 1.5. Standard 1.1, empowered learner, is when students use technology to demonstrate and achieve their learning goals. Students can use Kahoot to demonstrate that they understand the content their teacher has given them while learning about things they may have questions on. Standard 1.5, computational thinker, is when students develop and use strategies for understanding and solving problems. In Kahoot students must be able to quickly think of the correct answer, in some of the other modes (color kingdom) students must be able to use strategy to win against the other team. Overall, Kahoot is a great way to demonstrate the Danielson framework for teaching and the ISTE standards for students. Kahoot is an easy way to implement fun, educational technology into your classroom that engages your students! |
